How to Make a Solar Powered Car | STEAM | Ford


Looking for a new DIY project to do with your kids? Have some fun, while also learning about sustainable resources, by making a solar powered car together.

Supplies:
Foam core, hot glue gun, small brackets / triangles, metal rod (2x), spacers (4x), wheels (4x), gear, scissors, solar panel, engine, double-sided tape, marker

Step-by-Step Instructions:
1) Build The Car:
• Hot glue the triangles to the corners of the foam core
• Push metal rod through the triangle holes
• Add spacers onto the ends of the rods
• Add wheels onto the ends of the rods
• Repeat on the other side
• Before you add the wheels onto the other side, first add the gear
2) Build The Engine:
• Cut a rectangular space in the middle of the foam core body
• Thread the solar panel through the space from the bottom
• Use the foam core strip to secure the solar panel, using hot glue
• Align the motor
• Use double-sided tape to secure engine to the bottom of the foam core
