FORD FOCUS RS EARNS AUTOGUIDE.COM 2017 CAR OF THE YEAR HONORS

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 13, 2016 – The hot performance hatchback, Ford Focus RS, has just been named winner of the AutoGuide.com 2017 Car of the Year award.
Newly available in North America, Focus RS more than impressed the auto experts at AutoGuide.com.
“Ford Focus RS is one of those rare cars that gets massive hype, then still delivered beyond our wildest expectations,” said Jonathan Yarkony, group editorial director for AutoGuide. “Not only is it a great deal on paper as a practical, all-wheel-drive hatchback, but it leaps right to the top of the hot-hatch segment with 350 horsepower, an enthusiast’s-choice manual transmission and, best of all, its engaging character.”
Over five days of intense back-to-back testing in Southern California, Ford Focus RS battled some fierce competition to bring home the top prize.
“It’s an honor to earn the Car of the Year award from AutoGuide.com,” said Jamal Hameedi, chief engineer, Ford Performance. “The success of Focus RS throughout 2016 is testament to the entire Ford team who put all of their energy into creating such a special car that captures the hearts of driving enthusiasts everywhere.”

Ford owner Izzy Paskowitz, founder of Surfers Healing, is thrilled when he can retire his camp’s ‘98 Ford Econoline van for a brand-new custom woodie Ford Transit van.

We’re proud to have played a small role in Izzy’s mission as the Ford Excursion he drives transports all the surfboards from the camp to the ocean and back. See how Izzy and Surfers Healing go further to bring awareness to autism.

"RETURN TO PARK" FEATURE ON 2017 FORD FUSION DESIGNED TO ASSIST DRIVERS AND REDUCE POTENTIAL FOR VEHICLE ROLLAWAYS

  • Every 2017 Ford Fusion features new rotary gear shift dial that engages special software called Return to Park when it detects a customer’s intent to exit the car
  • Return to Park can provide drivers with extra peace of mind that their 2017 Fusion will select park, as intended, even if they forget to turn the dial to P, or accidently leave the car in another gear when parking
  • Vehicle rollaways can lead to multiple issues; a vehicle lacking driver control – even at low speeds – can be damaged or damage other vehicles, or strike people, animals or objects in its path

DEARBORNMich., Dec. 8, 2016 – Innovative Return to Park technology on the 2017 Ford Fusion uses data from the car’s extensive network of sensors to detect conditions that indicate a customer’s intent to exit the vehicle. The smart technology can provide drivers with extra peace of mind that their 2017 Fusion will select park, as intended, even if they forget to turn the dial to P, or accidently leave the car in another gear when parking.
In developing the innovative new 2017 Fusion and implementing the all-new rotary gear shift dial, Ford engineers identified an opportunity to address vehicle rollaways by designing smart software to assist the driver and reduce the potential for accidents under certain conditions.
Return to Park technology is designed to automatically shift the car into park when any of the following conditions* occur:
  • You turn the vehicle off
  • You open the driver’s door with your safety belt unlatched and the vehicle stationary
  • Your safety belt is unlatched with the driver’s door open and the vehicle stationary
“When we decided to go with the new rotary shifter for the 2017 Ford Fusion, the team sat together in a room to see what additional customer benefit we could bring to the table,” says Mark Zyskowski, Ford global e-shift systems technical expert. “We thought about what we could add without getting in the way of normal day-to-day scenarios, and all agreed a feature to help confirm park is selected when exiting the vehicle seemed really worthwhile.”
Fusion engineers worked hard to integrate the feature into normal, convenient operation for drivers. It can detect when a driver has turned the car off while moving, and will first shift into neutral until it slows below 5 mph before shifting into park automatically. The technology is designed not to operate if it detects a belted driver opens the door with the car moving to free a stuck coattail, for example, or if a driver happens to be inching into a parking space and wishes to see the lane markers. It is designed not to operate when the car is in Stay in Neutral or Neutral Tow mode.
Vehicle rollaways typically occur when drivers exit the vehicle with the engine running and the transmission not in park. A rollaway incident could result in serious injuries to a driver exiting the vehicle, or to pedestrians in the path of a rolling vehicle.
According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study published in August, 360 people were killed in accidents involving unattended vehicles with no driver control between 2012 and 2014 – which is 19 percent of all non-occupants killed in non-traffic crashes a year. In an average year, about 2,000 people are injured in similar incidents.
How it works
The rotary gear shift dial has three different electronic modules monitoring transmission and shifter, which must all be in agreement for a command for a gear selection to be accepted. This is the same system that is capable of detecting and overriding such unintended scenarios as shifting into reverse while driving at speeds above 5 mph.
The all-new rotary gear shift dial with Return to Park is a standard feature for all 2017 Ford Fusion vehicles.
*See Ford Fusion owner’s manual for details and limitations.

Ford, Fisher-Price Introduce Power Wheels Smart Drive Mustang -- Most Advanced Power Wheels Ever

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 23, 2016 – Ford and Fisher-Price® worked closely together to create the new Power Wheels® Smart Drive Mustang – a realistic and high-tech, fast and fun battery-operated ride-on toy. The officially licensed Smart Drive Mustang is designed to delight budding performance enthusiasts with original pony car-inspired looks and performance, and it’s packed with safety features sure to make parents happy, too.
Fisher-Price developed the scaled-down car, available in blue or pink, from real Ford design data. The result is an amazingly realistic Mustang – sized just for kids – that captures the spirit, style and high-tech features of the V8-powered Mustang GT their parents could drive.
“Mustang is one of our best-selling sports cars,” says Gary Collins, senior manager of design, Power Wheels. “For the Smart Drive Mustang, we wanted to amp up the realistic driving experience to make the feeling of getting behind the wheel even more thrilling for kids.”
The Smart Drive system is new for Power Wheels vehicles. At its core is the brand’s first computer-controlled powertrain, which opens up a world of features that make this Power Wheels Mustang a lot like the full-sized car:
  • Traction control: The computer can monitor for wheel slip and adjust motor speeds to help keep the car going over wet grass or bumpy terrain
  • Stability monitoring: A tilt sensor can detect when the car is reaching dangerous angles, turning off the motors to prevent rollovers
  • Digital speed control and battery monitoring: A backlit LED touch interface can allow parents to easily control top speed, from 1 mph to 5 mph, and check battery charge level
  • Slow start and stop: Instead of a simple on/off behavior, motors can now ramp speed up or down – for fast starts and short stopping distances
Perhaps most fun of all is the built-in sound system. It features engine sounds recorded from a real Mustang, which rise and fall with vehicle speed – just like a real car. An auxiliary input jack allows kids to play their own music on the biggest speaker ever installed in a Fisher-Price product.
Smart Drive Mustang is now on display at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. It will be available at retail in December for an MSRP of $359.99. Visit www.PowerWheels.com to find a retailer.

2017 F-150 RAPTOR ORDERING BEGINS, ONLINE AND IN-LINE AT FORD DEALERS: SUPERCREW, LUXURY GROUP WITH TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE IN SHADOW BLACK IS THE TOP CONFIGURATION

  • With more than 90,000 hits in the first 10 days of the Raptor build and price site, visits to the configurator are setting records and driving traffic to Ford dealerships
  • With Raptor’s starting MSRP of $49,520, Ford dealers are already taking deposits, with the first deliveries still more than a month away
  • Most popular options include SuperCrew (91 percent), luxury group (90 percent) and technology package (77 percent) – according to data tracked from the Ford.com website
DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 4, 2016 – As full-scale production begins this month on the all-new 2017 F-150 Raptor, orders are already pouring into Ford dealerships nationwide. Customer waiting lists are growing, and traffic to the Raptor build and price configurator site on Ford.com topped 90,000 hits in the first 10 days.
Performance, capability and technology improvements across the board make this the toughest, smartest, most capable Raptor ever. With a starting MSRP of just $49,520 for the purpose-built off-road Ford Performance-engineered F-150 Raptor, Ford dealers are seeing interest and already taking deposits on the truck.
Team Ford in Las Vegas has been one of the most successful F-150 Raptor dealers in North America. Owner Steve Olliges, who races Raptor professionally off-road, says he already has nearly 300 customers on a waiting list. He fields two to three calls a day from prospective buyers from across the country looking to place an order. He has to turn many away due to supply allocation limits.
“It’s a great problem to have, but it’s tough, because there’s so much interest in the product,” says Olliges. “We do everything we can to get our hands on Raptor for our customers, whether that’s referring them to other Ford dealers or making calls to find the truck for them.”
While Ford does not publicly disclose production numbers, of the trucks scheduled for production, 65 percent of orders are identified as retail orders for a specific customer. Largest markets so far include Texas, California and Florida.
The first 10 days of the Raptor build and price configurator on the Ford.com website has already seen more than 90,000 hits, with nearly 30,000 completed builds. Of those, 91 percent are SuperCrew. The luxury group, with features like 360-degree camera and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®), has a 90 percent take rate while Raptor with technology package, including lane-keeping system and adaptive cruise control with collision mitigation, has a 77 percent take rate. Shadow Black is the most common paint color.
“This is one of the fastest and most popular product launches we’ve seen in some time,” says said Rob Rosenbach, Ford F-150 brand manager. “Traffic volume on the Raptor pages is more than five times our other performance vehicle lines, with dealer demand far ahead of expectations. This demonstrates the Ford Performance team hit its mark with the new F-150 Raptor.”

NATIONAL TEEN DRIVER SAFETY WEEK: NEW REPORT FUNDED BY FORD SPOTLIGHTS DECREASE IN TEEN DEATHS SINCE 2004 BUT STILL SHOWS RISKS FOR OLDER TEENS

In advance of National Teen Driver Safety Week (Oct. 16-22), a new report from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), funded by a grant from the Ford Motor Company fund, shows that while much progress has been made in reducing teen driver-involved traffic crashes and deaths over the past decade, teens drivers are still 1.6 times more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than their adult counterparts and teen-involved fatal crashes increased by 10 percent in 2015.
The report also reveals that while great progress has been made at reducing younger teen driver deaths (ages 15-17), more needs to be done for older teen drivers (ages 18-20). The report provides recommendations for actions that can be taken to continue a decrease in teen deaths.
“This data shows that smart programs, like Driving Skills for Life, that focus on teen driving behavior have been very successful in helping novice and younger drivers be safer on the roads,” said Jim Graham, Global Manager for the Ford Driving Skills for Life program.
To read more of the report “Mission Not Accomplished: Teen Safe Driving, the Next Chapter,” an interactive PDF version of the report is available online.
Ford Driving Skills for Life was established in 2003 by Ford Motor Company Fund, the Governors Highway Safety Association, and a panel of safety experts to teach newly licensed teens and parents the necessary skills for safe driving beyond what they learn in standard driver education programs. The basic premise behind Ford Driving Skills for Life is to provide a step in the learning process, providing new skills and information not currently shared with newly licensed drivers in the basic driver education courses.
The program has trained more than one million individuals in safe driving practices. It is offered in 35 countries, and hands-on driving clinics have been conducted in all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

GLOBAL LEADERSHIP: HOW FORD TRANSIT BECAME THE BEST-SELLING CARGO VAN NAMEPLATE ON EARTH

  • Ford Transit sales momentum in the U.S. is strong, with sales up 31 percent year to date – making Transit the best-selling van in America
  • Ford is well established as Europe’s best-selling commercial vehicle brand, based on strong demand for Transit, the No. 1 nameplate in the medium commercial van segment there, according to data from IHS Markit
  • Ford Transit is the best-selling nameplate in the light bus and van segment in China, on track to become the best-selling nameplate there for 2016, based on data from China Insurance Information Technology Company

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 13, 2016 – Fleets and tradespeople around the world are increasingly turning to Ford vans to get the job done, making the Ford Transit family the best-selling lineup of cargo vans on the planet.

Ford Transit was the best-selling cargo van family[i] globally in 2015, with nearly 400,000 vans registered, based on IHS Markit global new vehicle registration data for calendar year-end 2015.

“We are focused on building on our clear global leadership in trucks, vans and commercial vehicles,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Global Product Development, and chief technical officer. “While other manufacturers only offer their van lineups regionally, Ford has cracked the code on developing global van architecture that can be customized to regional needs.”

The success of Transit has propelled Ford to become the top seller of commercial cargo vans in the United States. Ford controls 40 percent of the full-size commercial van market in the country through September – up from 36 percent in 2015. Strong demand for Transit is putting Ford on track for its best year for U.S. van sales since 1978, based on Ford-reported data. Transit now outsells even America’s best-selling minivan, based on industry-reported sales.

“U.S. customers have enthusiastically embraced Transit as a capable, flexible, smart work vehicle,” said Julie Ellenberger, Ford brand manager for Transit, Transit Connect and E-Series. “Transit offers best-in-class flexibility with more configurations than ever. Plus, its powertrains are specially engineered for North American buyers.”

Overall industry sales for Class 1-3 vans in the United States and Mexico are expected to continue growing, according to work truck industry association NTEA, which predicts industry sales will increase 10 percent in 2016 compared with 2015.

Transit is building on a 50-plus-year legacy in Europe, where it has been the best-selling van in its segment in the U.K. since 1984, according to IHS Markit registration data. In the past 25 months, Ford has seen its commercial vehicle market share grow from 10.8 percent to 12.9 percent in Europe, based on data from IHS Markit.

This makes Ford the No. 1-selling commercial vehicle brand in Europe for the first time in 18 years, thanks to continued growing demand for its completely new and expanded Transit range – including Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier – based on IHS Markit commercial vehicle registrations.

Transit is the best-selling nameplate in the light bus and van segment in China, on track to become the best-selling nameplate there for 2016, based on data from China Insurance Information Technology Company.

Deep roots for Ford commercial cargo van leadership

Ford’s commercial cargo van legacy began when the first Transit left the production line in Langley, England, Aug. 9, 1965. Transit became a favorite in Europe, and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary there.

In the United States, Ford became the van leader 36 years ago with success of its Ford E-Series van lineup, first sold in 1961 as Ford Econoline. The full-size Ford Transit was introduced in the country in 2014 – replacing E-Series – and quickly took over the title of America’s best-selling van, based on Ford analysis of industry-reported sales.

Ford is expanding its Transit lineup in China as part of its relationship with Jiangling Motors Corporation, which started in August 1995, with the first Ford Transit produced there in December 1997. Production of the all-new Transit Kombi started in September.

More than 8 million Transit and Transit Custom vehicles have been built, as the range grew from a single model more than half a century ago to an entire family of commercial cargo vehicles. Lined up end-to-end, 50 years of Transit vans would circle the globe. A customer buys a new Transit every 180 seconds on average, based on Ford sales and production data.

Ford Police Interceptor Utility Debuts Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights To Complement T Front Interior Visor Light Bar

  • New Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights for the Ford Police Interceptor Utility flash bright red, blue or amber to provide clear and direct communication to drivers of an emergency response situation
  • Feature enables agencies to run “slick top” – meaning no roof-mounted light bar is visible and the vehicle can maintain full front and rear lighting capability
  • Fully programmable front and rear lights offer a wide range of illumination

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 3, 2016 – Ford police vehicles just went deeper undercover.

Ford is debuting Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights to complement the “no-profile” Front Interior Visor Light Bar on Police Interceptor Utility. The feature integrates bright LED lighting into the vehicle’s rear spoiler, providing law enforcement with a highly effective tool to alert drivers of emergency roadside situations while affording officers full visibility out the rear window. When deactivated, the lighting is difficult to detect for someone approaching the vehicle from the rear.

“Aftermarket light bars can impede visibility by hanging down over the glass,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police brand marketing manager. “Our fully programmable Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights are integrated into the spoiler, so agencies get their bright red, blue and amber LEDs with no compromise to rear visibility.”

Aftermarket products mount inside or outside the glass then extend into the rear window – impeding visibility. Ford’s warning lights free up that space for unimpeded rearward vision.

The option complements Ford’s “no-profile” Front Interior Visor Light Bar, a covert feature that provides a similar improvement in forward vision over aftermarket options.

When activated, the new warning lights flash alternating bright red and blue bars in the rear spoiler; they can also be programmed for red/red, blue/blue or amber operation, providing drivers with directional signaling information. An auto-dimming capability can be programmed from full intensity down to 20 percent.

“Together with our front visor light bar, Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights offer a fully integrated solution for agencies wishing to minimize the presence of their police vehicles,” said Arie Groeneveld, chief program engineer, Ford police programs. “While signaling to drivers of an upcoming emergency situation, it constitutes a clear safety benefit for officers and the public.”

The feature can be ordered now for the 2017 Police Interceptor Utility. As with all Ford-provided police vehicle options, Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights come with a limited factory warranty.

PATENTED ADAPTIVE STEERING TECHNOLOGY HAS FORD COMPETITORS SPINNING THEIR WHEELS

  • Class-exclusive adaptive steering technology improves steering efficiency and steering effort – making all-new Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup and Ford Edge SUV easier to steer at all speeds
  • Based on driver input and vehicle speed, technology changes the steering gear ratio to provide optimal vehicle response for different operating conditions
  • System improves highway comfort and low-speed maneuverability by increasing and decreasing the steering ratio up to 30 percent; for Super Duty, it further improves driver comfort and confidence for towing or hauling heavy loads with tow/haul mode engaged
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept 22, 2016 – From carpool drivers to work crews, folks around the United States are about to discover the only steering wheel that works as hard as they do.
Adaptive steering technology makes the all-new Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup and Ford Edge SUV easier to steer at all speeds.
Despite the industry shift to electrically assisted steering, an overwhelming majority of new vehicles sold today have fixed steering gear ratios. Fixed steering ratios are always a compromise between providing steering quickness and maneuverability at low speeds, while offering comfortable vehicle response at high speeds. Ford has been awarded eight patents for the technology and 11 more have been filed.
Class-exclusive adaptive steering for the all-new Super Duty and Edge removes these compromises and reduces driver fatigue – especially at low speeds.
The system – all contained in the steering wheel itself – has an electric motor, a small computer and a gear unit. Based on driver input and vehicle speed, adaptive steering can add or subtract rotations to driver input at the steering wheel. Up to one full revolution can be saved at low speeds when steering lock-to-lock.
At low speeds, the system increases the angle of the front wheels as the steering wheel is turned – resulting in the driver needing to steer less to maneuver, explains Lodewijk Wijffels, Ford adaptive steering technical specialist. “At high speeds, the ratio is changed in such a way that vehicle response is more relaxed, more precise, and smoother than without the system,” he says.
Adaptive steering contributes to delivering the best ride and steering of any Super Duty ever, with improved responsiveness and control. The truck features a specific setting for engaging tow/haul mode that further optimizes how Super Duty and trailer react to steering input.
Adaptive steering made its debut on the 2016 Ford Edge Sport, which has driver-selectable normal and sport settings.  Adaptive steering is optional on the 2016 Ford Edge Titanium.

FORD'S BIG TRUCKS HAULING IN BIG SALES: NEW 2016 F-650 AND F-750 TRUCKS HAVE BEST YEAR-TO-DATE SINCE 1997

  • and F-750 medium-duty trucks in the first eight months of 2016 than all year in 2015
  • Year-to-date sales of F-650 and F-750 trucks are up 59 percent versus 2015 and at the highest level since 1997
  • All-new F-650 and F-750 trucks are available with the buyer’s choice of Ford-built segment-exclusive gasoline engine or diesel engine
DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 19, 2016 – Ford, America’s truck leader, has outfitted hard-working fleets with more F-650 and F-750 trucks in the first eight months of 2016 than all year in 2015.
Sales of the all-new medium-duty Ford trucks are up 59 percent year-over-year through August, with 10,160 sold. That’s the best year-to-date sales total for Ford’s largest trucks since August 1997.
The sales growth has come quickly: The redesigned F-650 and F-750 trucks rolled off the line at Ford’s Ohio Assembly Plant near Cleveland for the first time in August 2015. Ford shifted production to Ohio from Mexico in 2015 and invested $168 million in the Ohio plant.
The F-650 and F-750 line-up includes Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab body styles, as well as straight-frame, kick-up frame Pro Loader and a new dedicated tractor model for heavy towing applications.
“We’re seeing growing interest in the new tractor from beverage and hauling fleets,” says Kevin Koester, Ford medium-duty truck and Super Duty fleet marketing manager. “Giving our customers the choice of two exclusive powertrains, available across all body styles and designed specifically for the unique needs of the vocational truck market, has really helped drive sales of our new trucks.”
Ford remains the only automaker to offer a gasoline-powered engine in the medium-duty truck segment. The 6.8-liter V10 with 320 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque is available for both F-650 and F-750 models with the heavy-duty, Ford-built TorqShift HD six-speed automatic transmission. The 6.8-liter engine can be factory-prepped for converting to compressed natural gas or liquid propane gas as cost-effective alternatives to gasoline.
Ford is the only medium-duty truck manufacturer that designs and builds its own diesel engine and transmission combination – ensuring the powertrain will work seamlessly with all chassis components and vehicle calibrations, and providing customers with streamlined service. The Ford 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 turbo diesel engine delivers best-in-class standard 270 horsepower and 675 lb.-ft. of torque, plus available engine outputs of 300 horsepower with 700 lb.-ft. of torque and 330 horsepower with 725 lb.-ft. of torque. It is backed by an unsurpassed five-year/250,000-mile warranty.
“Towing and rental customers have embraced the gas engine, and others are looking at this powertrain for more severe service applications,” Koester says. “Our diesel customers are praising the quietness of the 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel engine. Not only is it up to 45 percent quieter in the cabin at idle than the outgoing model, it’s so quiet that customers have told us that there have been times when they’ve approached the truck in front of the grille and didn’t even realize it was running.”
Another feature resonating with customers, Koester says, is the TorqShift HD’s available Live-Drive Power Takeoff Provision. The diesel engine can crank out 300 lb.-ft. of stationary torque and 200 lb.-ft. in mobile mode, giving customers the power they need to operate a wide range of equipment on the job site. Diesel models can accommodate split-shaft PTO applications, as well. New for 2017 is the addition of mobile mode on the 6.8-liter V10 engine.
Toughest, great value and work-ready Ford medium-duty trucks everFord F-650 and F-750 trucks provide the ideal combination of value, capability and upfit readiness in the medium-duty truck segment.
These attributes underscore F-650 and F-750’s position as the future of medium-duty trucks:
  • Toughest: Fully designed and developed by Ford truck engineers in Dearborn, Michigan; robot-tested on taxing durability courses too demanding for human drivers; 500,000-plus miles of harsh dynamometer engine testing at extreme power levels and temperatures
  • Work-ready: New upfit-friendly chassis developed in cooperation with leading industry body makers; clean chassis capable of accommodating vocational bodies with little to no modification saves time and expense
  • Great value: Choice of segment-exclusive 6.8-liter V10 gas engine or 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel – both backed by Ford’s heavy-duty TorqShift HD six-speed automatic transmission enhanced for medium-duty use with great power, performance and efficiency; supported by a national network of Ford service centers to minimize downtime
