Watch a video on the new 2010 2011 police interceptor vehicles. The Utility Interceptor is based on the New 2011 Explorer. The new Explorer is a front wheel drive/all wheel drive vehicle powered by either a 3.5 V6 or a turbocharged 4 cylinder. It is totally different from the former truck based, body on frame Explorer.
The Sedan Interceptor is based on the new Taurus sedan which is powered by either the 3.7 V6 or the EcoBoost 3.5 V6. It is also a front or all-wheel drive vehicle. Both vehicles have aluminum suspension components as opposed to rugged but heavy stampted steel.
Note that both have column shifters to allow more space in the cockpit for computers and gears. Both also has an enclosed rearseat for tranportation.
